ABOUT THE ROLE
Pay Rate: $25.68
Purpose
The Slicer Operator is an entry-level position responsible for performing a variety of basic production tasks within a food processing or distribution environment. This role focuses on operating equipment for cutting and fabrication of proteins, yield management, handling materials, maintaining a clean and safe work area, and adhering to quality standards. On-the-job training is provided, offering opportunities for skill development and advancement within the company.
Responsibilities
- Operate Machine to slice products according to specifications. Trim and Portion products as needed.
- Material Handling: Handle and move materials within the production or warehouse area, including loading, unloading, transporting, and storing products using appropriate equipment (e.g., hand trucks, pallet jacks).
- Accurately perform yield, portion, and weight calculations to meet production and costing requirements.
- Identify products and cuts to meet customer specifications, production schedules, and stock orders with minimal waste.
- Assemble, disassemble, and operate specialized processing equipment safely and efficiently
- Meet customer demands and stock orders – recognition and cutting of items without excess trim loss
- Demonstrate expert knife skills and proper use and care of knives, hooks, steels, and specialized cutting tools.
- Comply with all knife handling best practices and plant safety standards.
- Assist with production start up operations as required.
- Complete end of shift activities, including table clean down, product handling, WIP documentation, and line shutdown procedures.
- Maintain efficiency standards and complete all required production, yield, and traceability documentation.
- Quality Control: Perform basic quality checks and measurements on products and packaging, identifying and reporting any defects or deviations from standards to the supervisor.
- Sanitation and Housekeeping: Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary work area, following established cleaning schedules and sanitation procedures.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety regulations, wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and report any safety hazards or incidents to the supervisor.
- Data Recording: Accurately record production data, including quantities, weights, and other relevant information, using designated forms or systems.
Skills
- Knowledge of primals, sub‑primals, muscle structures, and fabrication techniques
- Ability to work to tight specifications under production pressure
- Lead by example in safety, quality, efficiency, and compliance
- 3+ years’ protein cutting experience required
- Math skills required to calculate production specification measurements, i.e. weight, yield tests, etc.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and meet production targets.
- Ability to stand for extended periods, perform repetitive tasks, and lift and carry up to [Specify weight, e.g., 50 lbs].
- Basic communication and teamwork skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to quality and safety.
