ABOUT THE ROLE
Purpose
The Logistics Planner plays a key role in optimizing inbound freight operations for Sysco. This position focuses on planning and executing efficient transportation strategies, managing carrier relationships, and resolving freight-related issues to minimize costs and ensure timely delivery of goods.
Responsibilities
- Plan and tender freight to carriers within established service level agreements and budgetary constraints.
- Utilize Transportation Management Systems (TMS) to optimize routes, minimize empty miles, and maximize load utilization.
- Monitor freight costs and identify opportunities for cost reduction, such as negotiating rates, exploring alternative carriers, and optimizing load fill.
- Carrier Management:
- Build and maintain positive relationships with carriers.
- Resolve carrier issues, including payment discrepancies, service failures, and claims.
- Negotiate spot rates with carriers as needed.
- Data Analysis & Reporting:
- Analyze freight data to identify trends, identify areas for improvement, and generate reports on key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Process Improvement:
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance inbound freight operations and improve efficiency.
- Support the development and implementation of new initiatives to optimize inbound logistics.
- Customer Service:
Skills
- Data Analysis: Proficiency in data entry and basic data analysis. Experience with Microsoft Excel and TMS systems preferred.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Problem-solving: Ability to identify and resolve logistical challenges and address customer concerns.
Certifications
Education
Bachelor's degree in related discipline or an additional 4 years of relevant experience in lieu of degree

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk and use hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and telephone to talk and hear.
