ABOUT THE ROLE

Purpose

The Director of Operations at Sysco provides leadership and oversight for a significant portion of operational activities within a specific department, facility, region, or business unit. This role is responsible for driving operational excellence, implementing strategic initiatives, managing performance metrics, and ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory standards. The Director plays a key role in developing and mentoring operational talent and collaborates extensively with cross-functional teams to achieve business objectives. This position typically reports to the Vice President of Operations.

Salary: $91,200 - $171,100

Responsibilities

  • Achieving performance key metrics; evaluates fiscal metrics and adjusts activities to meet or exceed performance expectations

  • Expense and revenuemanagement;

  • Conductsaudits ensuring all required inspections and documentation are completed accurately (including, but not limited to, food safety documentation, MOT records, EPSM, PSM, etc.) andretainedto ensure a minimum potential forloss;

  • Strategic execution of local and corporateinitiatives;

  • Budgeting, forecasting, compliance with governmentregulations;

  • Safety and security of the building, itscontentsandpeople;

  • Management and direction of staff –maintainsassociate relations through regular department meetings;maintainson-going interaction; keeps open communication channels with associates by answering questions and explaining policies and procedures;monitorsassociate morale; and implements or responds to ideas to improve associate engagement and enablement

  • Interpretstrainsand consistently enforces Company policies andprocedures;

  • Ensures compliance with all Insurance Pooling requirements; withlocal,federaland provincial regulatory agencies (i.e.OHS, MOT, FDA, USDA, DOL, etc.); with licensing andlog bookrequirements and with food safety policies,protocolsand requirements; 

  • Monitors the condition and maintenance of the warehouse, fleet services, equipment, software, ammonia refrigeration system, HVAC systems, fire protection, and office by ensuring that all are kept consistentwith the safety, security, sanitation and appearance standards set by Sysco in an effort to reduce or eliminateoperations-related injuries or accidents, damage/loss of product or equipment, and unnecessarycosts;

  • Ensures contingency systems/practices/protocols are in place toeliminatebusinessdisruption;

  • Overseesemergency response or crisis management activities. Develops andmaintainsliaisons with local emergency management and other entitiesin order tofacilitateplan development and response effort coordinationAssists Safety Manager with traininginitiatives;

  • Evaluates and ensures theappropriate useand updating of all department software systems.

  • Responsible for the wholesome,accurate, efficient, fiscally responsible daily work and safety of Inbound and Outbound Warehouse, Transportation (Delivery), Fleet Services and Facilities.

  • Accountable for the accuracy of timecards,approvalsand scheduling of direct reports

  • Complies withSysco’s Food Safety Policy and procedures to ensure food safety, quality and legality requirements are met.

  • Understands both the economic and cultural value that a safe organization with minimal environmental impact brings to an organization.

  • Is willing to drive Environmental, Health and Safety performance by providing necessary resources and holding their team accountable tocomplyingwith EHS programs, policies, and requirements.

  • Enable,championand embrace an inclusive culture

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills

  • 5years Operations distribution management experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Managerial Accounting, Supply Chain Management, OperationsManagementor a closely related fieldrequired; or equivalent combination of education and related experience.

  • Exposure/familiarity to Lean Six Sigma environment is an asset

  • Proficientin Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook

  • Sound knowledge of the Occupation Health and Safety Act

  • The associate works non-traditional business hours including evenings, nights, weekends, holidays andon-call

  • Valid driver’s license in good standing with access to a vehicle isrequired

  • The associate may occasionallybe requiredto travel (10%) to other sites or the corporate office as business needsdictate(i.e.training, business continuation, etc.)

Education

Bachelor's degree in related discipline or an additional 4 years of relevant experience in lieu of degree

Experience

9+ years of experience, of which at least 5 leading a team
