ABOUT THE ROLE

POSITION SUMMARY

Describe the purpose and objectives of the job.

This role is primarily responsible for efficiently managing all activities on the day shift including receiving, put-a-ways and replenishment and ensuring that the warehouse is set up for the selection function on the night shift. 


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
List job function, day to day, core responsibilities.

  • Assist internal and external customers with expediting orders (Customer pick up/Same day service)
  • Develop standards and working relationships with outside contractors (e.g. Lumping)
  • Support warehouse team members with technology systems (Motorola RF scanners, Zebra printers, tablets and CANVAS)
  • Management of engineered labour standards 
  • Training on Material Handling for associates 
  • Complete daily warehouse inspections (coach cards, observations and facility audits) 
  • Daily communication with Merchandizing team to identify any logistic issues or delays from the vendor or inbound carrier
  • Prepare work schedules including vacations schedules
  • Analyze and work with team members on incentive program results and opportunities
  • Monitor and improve overall productivity 
  • Monitor problems/inefficiencies with receiving operations, generate ideas and solutions 
  • Coordinate receiving, put away, replenishment, assembly of products in a timely manner 
  • Generate/analyze productivity reports
  • Manage/Identify barriers that cause indirect time 
  • Record indirect (work delays) in SWMS (warehouse management system)
  • Monitor inbound loads and coordinate carrier placement to docks to reduce travel time and increase productivity 
  • Ensure product accuracy and integrity in conjunction with inventory control 
  • Interface with Merchandising department to resolve receiving problems and or buying patterns 
  • Supervise put away and replenishment process 
  • Assist Warehouse Manager in preparation of annual warehouse budget and monitor budget on a weekly basis
  • Ensure Food safety guidelines are followed and adhered to 
  • Develop and implement cost reduction action plans 
  • If applicable, understand and interpret the CBA, participate in grievance, mediation, arbitration procedures at unionized facilities
  • Accountable for the accuracy of timecards, approvals and scheduling of direct reports
  • Responsible for compliance with all Policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) comprising Sysco’s Food Safety Program, specific for the assigned role.
  • Assist Food Safety Program Manager in ensuring compliance to Sysco’s Food Safety Program that leads to compliance with third party certification and customer requirements.
  • Understands that their role is critical in creating a safe organization with minimal environmental impact and the value that brings to the organization.
  • Is willing to drive Environmental, Health and Safety performance by acting as an example and holding their team accountable to complying with EHS programs, policies, and requirements.

Process Management: scope of responsibility and planning, organizing and/or project management necessary for the position.

Leadership: responsibilities to manage, supervise, guide, lead or mentor other associates, the number of direct reports and their level is relevant (are the direct reports managers). Directly responsible for individual team members (+/-15) and is responsible for leading and mentoring direct reports. 

  • Must be able to work collaboratively with other departments.

Customer Service: level of responsibility for customer service looking at the nature of service/interaction provided to the “customer” (e.g. internal, external, vendor…), the diversity and complexity communication.

  • This role has many internal customers from all operational areas, these relationships can be diverse and complex. Thus, the level of influence in driving results for our external customers is heavily linked.

Autonomy: level of autonomy when it comes to performing work duties and achieving work objectives, the degree, nature and impact of decision-making.

  • This role is both autonomous and collaborative / influential. 
  • Balancing relationships while driving results through communication is required.

Contacts: describe who would be considered internal and/or external contacts/customers.

  • Works collaboratively with all operations management team members, Merchandising, Sales, EHS, Food Safety, and HR. 

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions: describe the intensity, frequency and duration of the physical effort required. Exposure to undesirable working conditions including noise, temperature, lighting, equipment or amount of travel (in percentage).

  • This role, while mostly in a warehouse environment, also includes the need for some time in the office either in an analytical/systems or consultative/associate need.
  • No travel required.


Sensory & Mental Efforts: describe the extent of multiple sensory demands such as frequency of repetitive tasks, level of auditory/visual concentration, frequency of interruptions, and the degree that pace is controlled by others.

  • This role requires a level of multitasking and detailed concentration to be able to ensure consistence flow of work is achieved. 
  • Being able to switch gears quickly as business needs dictate. 
  • Some tasks (data entry) will be required. 
  • Repetitive tasks include operation of a laptop/computer or desk phone. 
  • Interruptions happen frequently but can be controlled. 
  • The incumbent has the opportunity/flexibility change posture and position for comfort. Pace of work can vary but within reason.
